Packtrips are offered to a variety of destinations, depending on the weather and the overall experience desired by guests. Options include locations on Otter Creek (the cattle ranch) when the snows have not yet receded enough for alpine pack trips, up to one of the alpine lakes for a more remote back-country experience, or to the Bar B for those with younger kids or those wanting some basic creature comforts, such as a kitchen, bathroom and shelter from any storms, while staying in tents or lean-tos.
Overnight horse pack trips are available upon request for an extra charge. If you are interested in an overnight, please let us know in advance, so we can plan a trip to remember.
We also offer 3 night/4 day packtrips to two different alpine locations on our property. These longer packtrips will provide opportunities to hike and explore the mountains, relax, fish and to put out salt and mineral for cattle, check on electric fences and, on occasion, to move cows. These longer packtrips are offered separately from a regular stay at the ranc, so please contact us for availability and pricing. The typical itinerary is as follows:
Day 1 arrive at ranch, dinner and overnight in tent
Day 2 – 4: Ride to campsite, set up camp and horse corrals; Go Explore!
Daily activities will vary as mentioned above but guests will be able to choose which ones to participate in each day.
Day 5: After breakfast, break camp and ride back to Sweet Grass
These pack trips are available in July and August.
